How Citadel Works

Citadel cuts through the complexity of access control, offering a powerful, yet simple, and familiar program interface. Citadel was developed from the ground up in the Windows® 2000 programming environment to take full advantage of today's powerful computers and those of the future – it also maintains complete compatibility with older systems such as Microsoft Windows 98®, and Windows NT 4®.

Citadel is an affordable access control system designed to control a single building or a virtually unlimited number of buildings using either a direct panel connection or remote connection over regular telephone lines. Users set access control requirements at a host computer; and the host computer communicates requirements to specialized computing devices called controllers. The decision to allow or deny access is made at the controller and access transaction records are stored in the controllers' memory and are communicated back to the user – a 'parceling out' of computing tasks known as distributed processing.

Distributed processing allows access control decisions and transaction recording to be done by the individual controllers. So Citadel will continue to operate at full functionality even during a computer failure – if equipped with an optional 12V 4Ah backup battery, it will continue operating even during a power failure. Even without power and backup batteries, Citadel's controllers will remember a user's access requirements and the recorded transactions and spring to life, fully functional, as soon as power is restored with no action from the user.

Citadel not only supports over 4,000 cardholders, but moves beyond access control, by providing over 190 input monitoring points per site.

Automatic Alarm Routing

Citadel supports a virtually unlimited number of controlled sites with spontaneous and instantaneous reporting of alarms to its host computer.
